Every November 11th, Canadians pause to remember, not out of obligation, but out of gratitude. From the smallest towns to the busiest cities, we gather in silence, wear our poppies, and reflect on the incredible courage of those who served and continue to serve our country.
At Barson Construction, we build structures meant to last, but we also know that the foundation of everything we enjoy today was built by the bravery and sacrifice of generations before us. The peace and freedom we experience are the result of the strength and determination of those who stood up when it mattered most.
Remembrance Day is not just about looking back with sorrow; it’s about celebrating what their service made possible, a nation where opportunity, safety, and community thrive. It’s about the children who can grow up free, the businesses that can grow strong, and the people who can dream boldly because of the courage of others.
As we go about our work, constructing homes, improving spaces, and strengthening communities, we are reminded that every brick and beam rests on the freedoms that Canadians fought to protect. Today, we honour them not only in memory, but in the way we live, build, and care for one another.
So, on this Remembrance Day, we pause with hearts full of respect and gratitude. We remember the past, we honour the present, and we carry forward the legacy of peace and freedom they entrusted to us.
In Flanders Fields
by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
